Choosing your wedding flowers can feel a little overwhelming. There are so many flower varieties, colours, styles and ideas to consider, and you may be wondering whether you need to arrive at your consultation with everything already worked out.
You really don’t.
Your wedding flower consultation is a relaxed opportunity for us to chat through your plans, get to know what you love, and start exploring ideas together. You don’t need to know the names of flowers, have a finished Pinterest board or have every detail of your wedding decided.
In fact, sometimes the best consultations start with, “I honestly don’t know what I want, but I know I want it to feel beautiful.”
And that’s absolutely fine.
Feeling nervous? You don’t need to be.
It’s completely understandable to feel a little nervous before speaking to a wedding supplier, particularly when you’re discussing something you’ve never planned before.
But my consultations are very relaxed and friendly. There’s no test, no expectation to arrive with a perfect brief and definitely no need to impress me with your flower knowledge!
I’m here to make the process feel easy, enjoyable and exciting.
We’ll talk through your wedding, your venue, your ideas and the overall feeling you’d like to create. I’ll ask questions, make suggestions and help you understand what could work beautifully together.
If you’re completely clueless about flowers, that’s okay too. I can give you ideas, introduce you to different possibilities and help you discover what you actually like.
What can you bring to your consultation?
There really is no right or wrong answer here. Bring as much or as little as you’d like.
If you already have some ideas, these can be really helpful:
A Pinterest board
A collection of images you’ve saved can tell me a huge amount about your style, even if you can’t quite put it into words.
Your colour palette
If you’ve already chosen your colours, bring them along. This could be a mood board, fabric swatches or simply a few colours you know you love.
Pictures of flowers or wedding inspiration
Anything you’ve saved that catches your eye can help us explore what you’re drawn to.
Bridesmaid dress colours
These can be really useful when we’re considering the colours and tones within your bouquets and floral designs.
Groom and groomsmen’s suits
The colours and textures of the suits can also help shape the overall floral palette.
Your venue
If you’re getting married somewhere I’ve worked before, I may already know the space. If not, photographs, floor plans or details about the venue can help us think about how the flowers could work within it.
And don’t worry if you don’t have any of these yet.
Sometimes a few little details are all I need to start giving you ideas and presenting options that could work beautifully for your day.
You don’t need to know your flower names
This is something I really want couples to know.
You absolutely do not need to know your flower names.
You can show me a photograph and say, “I love this,” or “I don’t like this,” and that’s enough for us to start.
We can talk about colour, shape, texture, movement and the overall feeling you want, and I’ll guide you through the flower choices that could bring that vision to life.
Part of my job is taking all those little pieces of information and turning them into a cohesive floral design.
You might know you love roses, or you might simply know that you want something soft, romantic and full of movement. Either way, we have plenty to work with.
You don’t need to speak the language of flowers — that’s my job.
We’ll look at the bigger picture
Your wedding flowers aren’t just about choosing a bouquet.
We’ll talk about how you want the flowers to work throughout your day — from your personal flowers and ceremony through to your reception.
We’ll consider your venue, the architecture and the spaces you’re working with, and where your floral investment could have the greatest impact.
Sometimes that means keeping certain areas simple so we can create one beautiful focal point somewhere else. Sometimes it’s about creating a consistent floral language that flows from ceremony to reception.
There isn’t one right way to do it.
It’s about creating something that feels right for you.
What if I genuinely have no idea what I want?
Honestly? That’s absolutely fine.
You don’t need to arrive with a Pinterest board, a colour palette or a list of flower names.
Tell me what you do know.
Maybe you know you want something romantic. Maybe you love soft colours. Maybe you want the flowers to feel modern rather than traditional. Maybe you’ve fallen in love with your venue and simply want the flowers to complement it.
Even the smallest details can give me something to work with.
From there, I can help you explore different directions and give you ideas and options to consider.
Sometimes it’s easier to discover what you love when you can see the possibilities in front of you.
